What is a recliner sofa?

A recliner sofa is a sofa with a moving seat and backrest that tilts backwards into a reclined position. On a manual recliner you pull a side handle yourself; on an electric recliner a button drives the mechanism. This collection holds 534 reclining products in total, from single armchairs and two seater sofas through to three-piece 3+2+1 suites, plus a small number of reclining corner sofas and rise-and-recline chairs.

What is the difference between a manual and an electric recliner?

A manual recliner uses a lever or side handle that you operate by hand, so it can go anywhere in the room with no socket to plan around. An electric recliner, described as a power recliner in some product titles, moves at the press of a button and needs to sit within reach of a mains socket. Neither is better outright. Manual suits a room with awkward socket placement; electric suits anyone who would rather not pull a handle.

What is a rise-and-recline chair?

A rise-and-recline chair uses a powered mechanism that reclines backwards and also tilts the whole chair forward, which changes the height and angle of the seat as you get up. Furniture Instore lists these under the Hunson, Bilbury and Kingsbury ranges in genuine leather and fabric. If you are choosing one for a specific personal need, we would suggest speaking to your GP or an occupational therapist about what will suit you before ordering.

Which materials are these recliner sofas available in?

Four upholstery types appear in this collection. Genuine leather is confirmed in the product title on the Annecy, Cidliano, Renato, Dandrea, Turin, Amarien, Hunson and Bilbury ranges. Leather without the word genuine covers Valencia, Roma Leather and Cinema. Fabric covers Conway, Tanya, Foster, Roma Electric and Torino. Suede is used across the Maple range. Always check the individual product page for the exact specification.

Which sizes and configurations can I choose from?

Single seats are listed as armchairs or recliner chairs. Two and three seater sofas are available as standalone pieces across most ranges. Multi-piece sets use a shorthand you will see throughout the grid: 2+1, 2+2, 3+1, 3+2 and 3+3 for two-piece combinations, and 2+1+1, 3+1+1 and 3+2+1 for three-piece suites. The first number is the largest sofa in the set.

What size room do I need for a recliner sofa?

Plan for the reclined footprint rather than the closed one. A reclining seat needs clearance behind it for the backrest and clearance in front for the footrest, so a recliner takes up more floor space in use than a fixed sofa of the same width. Measure the wall you intend to use, allow room behind, and check the individual product page for exact dimensions before ordering.

How long does a recliner sofa last?

That depends on the range, how heavily it is used and how well it is looked after. Reclining mechanisms last longest when they are operated smoothly through the full travel rather than forced or stopped part-way, and when nobody sits or leans on an extended footrest. Upholstery life depends on the material and on regular, appropriate cleaning. Call 02476 705 600 if you would like us to check what information is held for a specific range.

How do I clean and care for a leather recliner sofa?

Wipe genuine leather with a clean, slightly damp cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Occasional specialist leather conditioning helps it stay supple. Keep it out of the direct path of strong sunlight and away from radiators, both of which can dry the surface over time. Deal with spills promptly by blotting rather than rubbing, and take care not to let cleaning products run into the reclining mechanism.

How do I care for a fabric or suede recliner sofa?

Vacuum fabric regularly using an upholstery attachment, and blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing them in. Suede needs a lighter touch again: brush it gently to lift the pile and avoid soaking it with water or general-purpose cleaners. For both, check the individual product page for any care instructions supplied with that particular range before you treat a mark.

Is genuine leather better than fabric for a recliner sofa?

Neither is better in the abstract. Genuine leather wipes clean easily and develops its own character with use, though it benefits from occasional conditioning. Fabric tends to feel softer to sit on and is easier to match with existing soft furnishings, but it holds onto dust and pet hair more readily. Suede sits between the two and needs the gentlest cleaning routine. It comes down to the feel you want and the upkeep you are happy with.

Do electric recliners need to be near a plug socket?

Yes. An electric or power recliner draws mains power to drive the mechanism, so it needs to sit within reach of a socket. Check where your sockets are before deciding on the position of the sofa, and bear in mind that a trailing extension lead across a walkway is not a good long-term answer. If socket access is difficult, a manual recliner removes the problem entirely.

Are all 534 products in this collection in stock?

No. At the point this proposal was written, 439 of the 534 products were in stock and 95 were out of stock, which is roughly 18 per cent of the collection. Several ranges are affected unevenly, with the Amarien and Maple lines carrying a high proportion of the out-of-stock items. Use the availability filter to see only what can be delivered now.

What does Outlet mean on a recliner sofa listing?

Outlet appears in the vendor field on a number of listings in this collection and marks a reduced clearance or ex-display unit rather than a manufacturer. These are usually single units, so once one sells the listing goes out of stock. Because the product records do not carry a formal condition field, we cannot state the exact condition of an individual outlet unit here. Call 02476 705 600 and we will check it for you.

Is finance available on recliner sofas?

Yes. You can spread the cost with PayPal Pay in 3, Klarna Pay in 3 or Pay in 30, both interest-free, Clearpay in 4 interest-free fortnightly payments, or DivideBuy for longer-term plans. All finance is subject to a credit check, and the options available to you are shown at checkout. Our team can talk you through the providers on 02476 705 600 if you would like help comparing them.

How long does delivery take?

Most in-stock recliner sofas are delivered within 7 to 10 working days, free of charge to England and Wales. Delivery is carried out by a two-person employed team, not a third-party courier, who bring the sofa into your chosen ground-floor room where access allows and fit any feet or joining sections on site. Pre-order items shown in the grid run to a longer lead time stated on the product page.

Is assembly included, or do I need to build it myself?

There is no self-assembly to do. The two-person delivery team brings your recliner into the room you have chosen, on the ground floor, and fits any feet or joining sections for multi-piece sets on site before they leave. They will also take the packaging away on request. Do let us know in advance if access to the room is tight, so the team can plan for it.

What happens if my recliner sofa arrives damaged?

Tell the delivery team at the point of delivery wherever possible, and contact us on 02476 705 600 the same day so we have a record from the outset. Photographs of the damage and of the packaging help. Damage in transit is our responsibility to put right, and we will talk you through the options once we have seen what has happened. Do not attempt to repair a reclining mechanism yourself.

Can I return a recliner sofa if I change my mind?

Yes. Furniture Instore offers 14-day returns on this range, so you have a 14-day change of mind window from delivery. The sofa needs to be in the condition it arrived in, and we will explain the collection arrangements when you get in touch. Call 02476 705 600 or use the contact details on the site to start a return.

Does a recliner sofa come with a warranty?

Furniture Instore does not offer a separate frame or mechanism warranty on this range, and we would rather say so plainly than imply cover that does not exist. Your purchase is protected by your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which requires goods to be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If a fault appears, call 02476 705 600 and we will advise on the options open to you.
